The legal environment under which the oil sector will operate is a key determinant on how Ugandans benefit or lose out from the oil industry.
The government has come up with several laws and policies to guide the oil industry, but with no prior experience in oil related legislation, and with ever changing economic and political realities relating to natural resources management and international trade, it remains to be seen whether Uganda’s laws are adequate to guide the prosperous operation of a beneficial oil industry.
