The Angolan State Oil Company (Sonangol) announced today it has signed a memorandum of understanding with two foreign aviation companies to restructure its own Sonair Company, which ensures air transport in the sector.
The document was signed on Wednesday by the chairman of Sonangol’s board Carlos Saturnino and Daniel Sigaud by the Luxembourg consortium Heliconia and the Canadian CHC.
Heliconia and CHC are specialized in rotary wing aviation (helicopters and other means powered by rotors) and operate in several countries in support of offshore oil activities
Through the document, the search for solutions for oil operators will be urgently prioritized, reported Prensa Latina.
The first phase of the memorandum includes the full internal evaluation of Sonair in terms of organisation, processes and systems, and the second phase is expected to involve the formation of a joint venture for the relaunch of activities.

Sonangol is increasingly looking to move away from non core activities to focus on oil production, having invested in diverse areas of the Angolan economy during the oil boom, ranging from real estate to banking.
